connection tweaking... ?
« on: February 01, 2004, 07:32:36 PM »
are there any tweakable bits to the allegiance client that would improve the connection in terms of lag and ping?

here are some generic tweaks for cable/adsl: http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/cable/

...and for modem users: http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/modem/

a good testing and tweaking site for dsl: http://www.dslreports.com
and these guys have an online TCP/IP analyzer: http://www.speedguide.net.

I have not been able to tweak anything, or at least I cannot see any changes in my connection. Well, I had used most of those hints already, so no big suprise. ;)

I tried that for my modem on XP but the guide seems to be written for 9x only - some of the things he describes simply dont exist in the xp-menue.
But keep me posted if something happens for xp-modem users.

Another interesting thing would be the V90 upgrade for my modem. Does anyone know if Alleg runs with the V90 upgrade? The squad could get a good turretgunner back...

here's an XP one for modems Grendelwolf: http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/winxp_modem/index.shtml

the real tweak is with the registry settings - getting the MTU to an optimum setting

dunno about the V90 ... this is a tech which is outdated already - i don't think many ISPs have installed it - the only benefits are a slighty increased upstream through compression and the ablilty to put your connection on hold when a phone call is coming through ...
NOT needed when your just about to ace the bbr bearing down on your garrison
